                                  PIRATES INVADE PORT SALERNO
Blackbeard’s Pirate Ship on display at the Port Salerno Seafood Festival!

PORT SALERNO — On January 28th from 10am to 8pm,
Pirates will invade the waterfront of Port Salerno for the Sixth Annual Port Salerno Seafood Festival. Pirates of the Treasure Coast (a Florida based group of independent pirate characters) will return with Blackbeard’s Pirate Ship and many charismatic and fun-loving pirates to interact with visitors that come out to indulge in the fresh seafood, live music and arts and craft shopping. Our scaled down replica pirate ship will be on display in Manatee Park by Pirate’s Cove Resort during this amazing, fun-filled event put on by the Port Salerno Commercial Fishing Dock Authority.

Even more food will be available at the Seafood Festival this year to accommodate the 30,000+ attendees. This will consist of thousands of pounds of fresh fish, shark, calamari, oysters, shrimp
and homemade chowders. Local fishermen of Port Salerno catch the majority of this seafood and
with the help of their friends and families, prepare and serve their catches. Local restaurants also
help round out the menu with select dishes served at the festival.

Each year the festival is very thankful for the hundreds of volunteers that help out manning the
seafood and beer stands, parking areas and entrance gates, not to mention set-up and teardown.

The Port Salerno Seafood Festival will be accepting voluntary donations at the entrance gates.
Your donation will help support The Port Salerno Commercial Fishing Dock Authority and
several other non-profit organizations in and around the community such as the Florida Sheriffs
Youth Ranch, Port Salerno Elementary School, Keep Martin Beautiful, Treasure Coast Water
Way Cleanup, The Port Salerno Christmas Jamboree, and many others.

The Port Salerno Commercial Fishing Dock Authority, Inc. is a not-for-profit trade association dedicated
to preserving the heritage and integrity of the Commercial Fishing Industry in Port Salerno.

The 4th Annual Treasure Coast Pirate Fest sails into Historic Downtown Stuart rain or shine Friday,Saturday, and Sunday,September 9–11  Come ashore for mayhem and merriment from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday with costume contests,a family treasure hunt, live music, street performers, pirate demonstrations,pirate-themed vendors, and a plentiful array of arts, crafts, and food – plus a special pirate’s ball Friday night from 7–11 p.m. This year Pirate Fest introduces a living history pirate encampment and an all new three-day pirate pub crawl. General admission is FREE,and a portion of proceeds benefits Honor Flight Southeast Florida and the Road to Victory Museum as well as the DBA.

“Our beautiful waterfront and pirate heritage are part of what makes Stuart unique. Pirate Fest is a way to enjoy them both,” says event organizer,Patty O’Connell of the DBA. “Our local businesses all participate with friends and neighbors and pirate fans from all over Florida and the southeastern United States come together for three days of fun.”

The weekend kicks off Friday night with the Pirates Ball at the Lyric Flagler Center. Festivities include the finest in pirate fare,a well-stocked cash bar,sea shanties by the famed pirate crew,The Brigands, and a fantastic piratical adult costume contest. Don your finest pirate regalia and compete for the top prize. Not blessed with a fancy gown or pirate coat? An eye patch and a hearty pirate attitude will carry ‘ye through the amateur division.

It’s all in good fun Saturday and Sunday as locals and pirates alike take to the streets of downtown Stuart for two days of family fun. With hundreds of authentic pirate re-enactors and interactive street performers wandering the streets of Stuart in period costume, don’t be surprised by random acts of piracy.

Family fun includes the Family Treasure Hunt that will take place Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 2:30.  No need to pre-register or sign up this year, just stop by the Chickee Hut behind the Heritage Museum. Families will be sent to search an area near the pirate encampment to plunder various trinkets and treasures. Treasure hunters that find the proper coins will each be awarded a small prize.

New this year is a full scale pirate encampment on the waterfront behind the museum. This living history display will stand on the very grounds where infamous Treasure Coast pirate Don Pedro Gilbert (of Gilbert’s Bar fame) and his crew of scallywags once wreaked havoc in the early 1800s. And for those who want to eat (and drink) like a pirate, organizers Pirates of the Treasure Coast and SIK Promotions have added the Tortuga Pub Crawl with stops at downtown Stuart’s tastiest galleys. With three days to complete the crawl, there’s no reason not to savor every stop.

Live music and demonstrations begin at 11 each day with shows on three stages. Performances include an educational – and entertaining! – return to the golden days of piracy with a Black Powder Demonstration featuring real flintlocks and cannons and a children’s costume contest. Famous pirate balladeers,The Brigands of Long Island and For Love or Money of Tampa Bay will be joined by local bands and a special Saturday night headliner to be announced.

At 12 noon on Sunday,September 11,it’s all hands on deck for a remembrance of the men, women, and children who lost their lives in the attacks on the twin towers in 2001 and the brave heroes who gave all in response. Historic re-enactors will fire a 21 gun salute in tribute to those we lost in this attack on our country 10 years ago. Volunteers will also collect donated items for our troops overseas at the gate.

Visitors are encouraged to attend in costume,so come dressed as your favorite Hollywood buccaneer,Mardi Gras pirate,or historic swashbuckler. Too shy for pirate gear? Pirates-at-heart are welcome too! Either way, you’ll get a taste of the pirate life at the 4th Annual Treasure Coast Pirate Fest!

The group is an advocate for business owners and promotes a positive image of the downtown business district as a unique alternative to “cookie cutter” mall shopping.  Treasure Coast Pirate Fest
September 9, 10 & 11, 2011

STUART, FL--- The Fourth Annual Treasure Coast Pirate Fest will be sailing into Historic Downtown Stuart, September 9th, 10th & 11th, 2011.  The weekend?s events will commence on Friday with the Pirate's Ball at Lyric's Flagler Center. The Pirate's Ball is a nautical adventure not to be missed.  Pirates from across the land will don their finest regalia for the adult's costume contest. There is no need to be intimidated by all of the fancy gowns or expensive pirate coats; there is a category for all who participate. A simple eye patch and a strong pirate attitude can go a long way. This adult's only Pirate's Ball will be filled with random acts of piracy; shanties and songs of the sea performed live by the famed pirate group The Brigands.
The Ball will also include hors d'oeuvres provided by Pelican Café, and Flagler Grill and Bar and offer a well-stocked cash bar.

The Treasure Coast Pirate Fest is proud to announce its new period styled Pirate Encampment featuring the Port Royal Buccaneers.  It will be erected on the very grounds where the infamous pirate Don Pedro Gilbert and his crew of scallywags wreaked havoc along Stuart's Treasure Coast back in the early 1800's.

Beginning at 10 am Saturday, the streets will be filled with patrons perusing the plentiful array of art, craft and food vendors!  Pirate re-enacters will provide an educational, yet very entertaining look back to the golden days of piracy with a Black Powder Weapons demonstration with real flintlocks and cannons.

Treasure hunters that find the proper coins will each be awarded a small prize.A Children's costume contest will be scheduled for Saturday with prizes for the buccaneers.

The event's three stages will provide live entertainment with well-known local bands, various pirate acts including The Brigands, from the shores of Long Island, New York, For Love or Money from Tampa Bay, Florida, and a special performance to be announced in the coming days. Updates will be posted on the event's website as they become available.

On Sunday, September 11th, the adventure continues starting at 10:00 am with more live music, pirate acts, and great vendors. At 12:00 Noon; Historic re-enactors will fire a 21 gun salute to pay tribute to the men, women and children who lost their lives 10 years ago, and to our brave heroes who gave their lives responding to the attacks that were perpetrated against our country on September 11th, 2001. After this moment of remembrance, it's "All Hands on Deck" as a large number of pirate re-enactors assemble and participate in the largest single black powder demonstration during the pirate fest weekend.

Hundreds of period correct pirates will be in attendance including interactive street performers that will be roving the streets of the festival all weekend long.
Visitors are encouraged to attend in costume, so come dressed as your favorite Hollywood Buccaneer, Mardi-Gras Pirate, or a Historic Swashbuckler from the golden age of piracy, Avast me hearties... all pirates are welcome! Although participants are requested to dress like a pirate, it is not a requirement.  Whether you come in costume or not, one thing is for sure, if you attend the Fourth Annual Treasure Coast Pirate Fest you will experience what it's like to live a pirate's life!

While admission to the event is free, a suggested donation of a buck-an-ear ($2) will be requested at the gate, we will also be accepting donated items of basic needs for our Troops overseas. A portion of the proceeds from this year's Pirate Fest will benefit;
